Dr. Lorrie-Anne Monte is a school counselor at Naugatuck High School. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Relations from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Science degree in Counseling and a Master of Public Health degree from Southern Connecticut State University. She also recently graduated again from UCONN with a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology. She really loves to learn and is obsessed with personal and professional growth and development!!! She is a Certified Health Education Specialist and a Certified Health and Wellness Coach. Lorrie-Anne has been a Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence-Ashoka Changemaker Fellow for the past two years. She strongly believes in being of service to others and is a Past President and Board Member with the Connecticut School Counselor Association and a Board Member with the Connecticut Association for the Gifted. At the high school, she is the advisor for Naugatuck Youth Leaders, which is a social emotional service learning program dedicated to spreading kindness throughout the school and community.
Her workshop topic is 'Social Emotional Wellness 101'. Imagine how awesome school would be for all children and adults if we creatively focused on positivity, hope, gratitude, appreciation, interests, strengths, talents, skills, abilities, and gifts instead of weaknesses and deficiencies. Social Emotional Learning, Positive Education, and Positive Psychology are three evidence-based fields of study that can help make that dream a reality. This session will consist of an overview of each field, fun activities, and plenty of resources.
